The Phelps circus needs to go

The infamous Westboro “Baptist” “Church” has been served with a defamation lawsuit.

Fred Phelps’ Topeka-based “church,” known for its outrageous and un-Biblical stance against a myriad of issues, is being sued for protesting at Army 1st Lieutenant Forrest P. Ewens’ funeral.

Phelps-Roper (Fred’s daughter/lawyer) stated, “Our job is to put this cup of his wrath and fury to the lips of this nation and make them drink it.”

Where in the Bible did they get this brand new directive?

Our job as believers is to let God be God and focus on loving one another as Christ commanded. Nothing about picketing a soldier’s funeral exhibits God’s love; it only reeks of hypocrisy, hate and complete cluelessness to the very heart of God.

While most people are smart enough to know that Phelps’ ragtag group is so completely off kilter, their behavior cannot but taint the secular world’s impression of Christianity as a whole.

I don’t really care what they believe, but I hope this lawsuit puts an end to their activism so they cannot continue to hurt people anymore.

Thanks to the Pondering Pastor for the heads up.

  1. Why don’t you go read Jeremiah 25:15 through the end of the chapter, you Bible-ignorant ninny! :-)
