Ms. Julia

Proverbs 12:25 says:

An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.

A couple of weeks ago I woke up with a heavy heart with a little bit of anxiety thrown in. Some days I just do – it started at the peak of a stressful period in my life 11 months ago. On days like these, I find it hard to be joyful.

As I waited for the bus that morning, I noticed a lady carrying a tote bag with “Jesus” embroidered on its side. In this big city, it isn’t a typical thing to “carry” your faith so openly. So I went up to her and made a nice comment about the design. We ended up having a great time connecting as fellow believers, even quoting scriptures to one another as we shared testimonies.

Later on as I continued my journey to work, it struck me that the heaviness of heart was gone, and my spirit was lifted and filled with joy. And as I reflected on my conversation with Ms. Julia, I realized that she had nothing but kind and encouraging words to say, along with a sincere beaming smile.

That incident happened more than a month ago, but I remember it fondly. It reminded me of God’s love. And that He sometimes sends angels or faithful believers to hold us up when we are weary. And that – once again – His Word is true.

My prayer today: Thank you for strengthening me when my spirit was weary. Use me as your vessel today to apply your Grace, love and strength to the people in my life.

  1. This challenges me to be the light of Christ in someone else’s darkness. This is a beautiful story. May his peace continue to rain down on you.
